Miniature Dachshund Puppy for Sale

When making a decision on purchasing a Miniature Dachshund puppy for sale you have to be well aware of the typical characteristics of the breed and its basic needs. A miniature variety of the Dachshund appeared as a smaller version of a Standard dog to make it more suited for apartment living. The wither height of the Miniature Dachshund dog is under 14 inches; it weighs under 11 pounds. The Standard Dachshund stands between 14 and 18 inches at the withers and weighs over 11 pounds. There is also a Toy variety of the breed that stands up to 12 inches and weighs around 8 pounds. Such dogs are accepted only by non-English speaking registries, such as the FCI. The AKC recognizes only two size varieties of the Dachshund.

The body structure in all three varieties of Dachshunds is the same. A Miniature Dachshund puppy for sale should look like a miniature copy of a full-sized dog. All Dachshunds have a long body with a deep, well-muscled chest. The neck of the Dachshund dog is well-developed; the topline is level. The head is elongated, with a convex skull, tapering muzzle, and arched eyebrows. The lips of the Dachshund are tightly stretched; the jaws are well-developed; the teeth meet in a scissors bite; the nostrils are well open. The eyes of these dogs are oval-shaped and very dark in color. The general expression of the Dachshund’s eyes is energetic, intelligent, and friendly.

A Miniature Dachshund puppy for sale may come in three coat varieties: smooth-coated, long-coated, and wire-haired. The choice of the coat type depends on the buyer’s preferences. Long-coats are reported to be calmer than other varieties; wire-haired dogs are more outgoing and funny than other Dachshunds. All three types are average shedders. Long-coats need frequent brushing and bathing; wire-haired dogs need professional trimming if shown. Smooth-coated Dachshunds have the least keeping requirements.

The health and temperament of a purebred dog depend much on the breeder. Some bloodlines of the Miniature Dachshund are prone to genetic problems that can be eliminated only by careful selective work. When buying a Miniature Dachshund puppy for sale, choose the breeder very carefully to avoid health problems in your future pet.
